Club members were saddened to hear of the death of former member Ronnie McInnes who passed away on Friday 22 January aged 63.
Ronnie joined the Road Running side of the Club in 1990 and in 1991 clocked 38:05 in the Helensburgh 10K and 1:27:52 in the Helensburgh Half. However, Ronnie clearly had a turn of pace over much shorter distances and keen to explore this part of his talents he joined Tony Grundy’s Sprints Squad where he enjoyed mixing with and was very popular with the predominantly far younger squad members. On joining the Masters ranks he went on to achieve Podium success in the sprints at several Scottish and British Masters Championship events, particularly Indoors over 60m. Competing for the Club in the Central & South Scotland Athletics League at Dumfries in May 1994 he set a new League Record of 11.5 secs in the Masters 100m, a record that stands to this day.
Ronnie will be sadly missed by all those he trained and raced alongside.
